MentorTech Ventures is a US based seed and early-stage venture capital firm that invests in companies from the University of Pennsylvania ecosystem. The firm primarily focuses on investments in the information technology, marketing technology and physical sciences industries. MentorTech Ventures typically have key founders or managers who are students, faculty members or alumni of the university. The firm will consider investments in other areas, however, if the company has a sufficiently strong connection to Penn and a strong syndicate of co-investors with deep domain expertise. The firm prefers to lead or co-lead its initial investments, though it will invest as part of a larger syndicate if appropriate. Post-investment, it typically takes an active role with the company, often taking a director or observer seat on the Board of Directors. The firm seeks to invest primarily in companies in the greater Philadelphia and New York City areas. MentorTech Ventures will consider investments outside of this area, but only alongside strong, local partners. In 2016, the partners of MentorTech Ventures launched Red & Blue Ventures to continue MentorTech's IT-focused investment strategy. MentorTech is not seeking any new investments, but will continue to make follow-on investments in its existing portfolio.
