Innovation Engine (IE) is a Tokyo-based private equity firm involved in venture capital investments. It targets promising technology ventures from seed to mid-stage, primarily in Japan. The firm invests across a broad spectrum of industries ranging from materials, electronics, IT, and bio/healthcare with a particular focus on business domains that are expected to drive longevity and the fourth industrial revolution in Japan. Such investment areas include cutting-edge technologies such as AI, IoT, big data, AR/VR, and robotics. It invests in private companies as a lead investor and provides hands-on support to its investees as an outside board director. The scope of its hands-on support ranges from business planning, management recruitment, corporate finance, sales/marketing, and business partnerships. In order to secure funding from the Innovation Engine, venture businesses must possess a strong management team and an excellent track record. They must also be operating in a market with solid growth potential and seeking to commercialize advanced technologies, for example by conceptualizing products, services, or software that may utilize these technologies.
