The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners (UTEC) is a Tokyo-based venture capital firm affiliated with the University of Tokyo. The firm targets seed- to early-stage science and technology start-ups that have promising technology, strong management teams and the potential for global expansion. Its focus areas include life sciences, healthcare, IT, physical sciences and engineering. It invests primarily in Japan but also seeks opportunities globally, particularly in US, Europe, India and Southeast Asia. In partnership with the University of Tokyo, UTEC has proprietary access to the university’s inventions, working closely with researchers at the university to co-found innovative companies.
