Graycliff Partners was part of HSBC Principal Investments which was established in 2006 in order to bring together all of HSBC’s core principal investments division under one roof. Graycliff Partners consists of HSBC Private Equity Asia, HSBC Private Equity Middle East, HSBC Capital Canada, HSBC Private Equity UK and HSBC Capital USA. In November 2011, the management team of HSBC Capital USA bought out the management company responsible for the firm’s investments. The spin-out is a result of regulatory pressures forcing banks to reduce exposure to alternative assets. Following the spin-out, the firm was named Graycliff Partners.
