Square 1 Ventures was founded in 2007 as a subsidiary of Square 1 Financial, a bank holding company, to manage a series of venture capital fund of funds. Square 1 Financial’s other subsidiary, Square 1 Bank, was a national venture bank that provides financial products and services to venture capital firms and their portfolio companies. Using Square 1 Bank’s broad network of relationships with leading venture capital funds across the US, Square 1 Ventures achieved greater deal flow and improved access. As a direct participant in the venture market, Square 1 Bank provided real-time market and performance insight that enables Square 1 Ventures to make more informed investment decisions. In May 2014, it was announced that Square 1 Ventures had established a non-exclusive referral program with fund of funds manager Industry Ventures. In October 2015, the firm was rebranded and merged with Pacific Western Bank.
