With offices in Chicago, Illinois and Detroit, Michigan, AA Capital Partners was a private equity firm specializing in both direct investments and private equity fund investing. The firm, which was founded in 2001 as a spin-off of the ABN AMRO Fund Investment Group, handles funds for 6 pension funds. However, in September 2006, the SEC filed for and received a restraining order against AA Capital Partners on charges that the firm and its president, John Orecchio, inappropriately took at least USD 10.7 million from its clients. The assets of AA Capital Partners were also frozen. In addition to his role as president, Orecchio owns half of AA Capital Partners. The SEC charges that AA Capital used the fraudulent guise of capital call-downs to cover such expenses as private jet rentals, Super Bowl tickets, donations to political candidates and the operations of a Detroit strip club. Fundraising of its second fund of funds vehicle was subsequently abandoned. As of June 2010. the firm has officially ceased to exist.
