Bear Growth Capital Partners (BGCP), an affiliate of Bear Stearns Merchant Banking (BSMB), is a private equity initiative financed by Bear Stearns Companies. It is an opportunistic mid-market buyout offshoot of BSMB. BGCP is focused on making equity investments in middle-market companies. It looks for opportunities to work directly with experienced management teams and provide capital and investment expertise to help companies grow, targeting companies with enterprise values of between USD 20 million to USD 100 million. The firm was launched in 2003, by BSMB, to target smaller companies that fell below the investment parameters BSMB had set for its USD 1.5 billion Bear Stearns Merchant Banking Partners II fund. Bear Growth Capital Partners makes its investments from capital provided by Bear Stearns rather than an independent fund or drawing from BSMB's fund.
